I have attended 3- 10 day Vipassana Silent Meditation Retreats where I would meditate for 11 1/2 hrs per day and one of the codes of discipline is taking part in a vow of noble silence. Noble Silence means that any form of communication, gestures, notes or even eye contact with anyone but the teacher, is prohibited. These retreats have been the greatest gifts I have given myself in my life because it forces us to go within and go within to levels that otherwise could be unattainable without this environment that has been created for the students. I will continue to attend or serve at Vipassana Retreats for as long as I am physically able.
